Learning to Spin

I bought a Turkish drop spindle and some roving a while ago, and stuck it on a shelf.  Now I have decided to try it.

  1. Excellent start!

If you want to even it out, go through the ball section by section, unwinding a length, slightly untwisting it between your hands until it will gently slide apart, spin a little more twist into it, and wind it on to the spindle smoothly and evenly.

I will sometimes do a rough spin that looks much like what you have here, just so I don’t have to worry about keeping it fluffy in my bag; from a ball of rough yarn, I spin it further, as above, drafting/thinning it out and adding more twist. (When it is half the size of the final yarn, I ply it, one end from the inside and one from the outside of the ball.)

    Keep going! You’re doing well!
